Roberto de Saint-Malo - General Partner
Roberto has been finding, making and managing direct equity investments since 1995. Involvement with dozens of companies, particularly in the venture space, in multiple geographies, has provided him with knowledge and experience that are highly valuable for early-stage ventures. During this time the investments he has executed and managed have delivered an aggregate IRR in excess of 25%. Roberto’s pre-Adara company-building experience includes work with ventures such as Cambridge Broadband (UK), eDreams (Barcelona), Officenet (Brasil), and Energia Global (Boston / San José, Costa Rica).
Investments Roberto has led & completed at Adara are Eyesquad (Israel) and Berggi (Spain). Having founded Adara in 2002 and served as Managing Partner through mid 2010, his Adara duties are today part-time. He presently devotes a significant portion of his time to advising early to expansion-stage tech ventures and is an active angel investor.
From 1988 to 1994, Roberto served as CEO of Jumbo Comercial, a 34-site supermarket chain in Central Spain, where he & team effectively doubled sales in real terms with a small (10%) net addition of selling space, to over $200m. While at Jumbo he was also a board member at Pao de Açucar, a leading Portuguese retailer, with sales of over $1.2b in 1994. From 1985 to 1988, Roberto was a consultant at McKinsey & Co., advising top management at leading banks and retailers in Spain andPortugal.
Roberto obtained an MBA degree from Harvard Business School and a Computer Science degree (BA) with Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors atDartmouth College. He was named a Global Leader for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum in 1995 and has been an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organisation (YPO) since 1992. Favourite pastimes are golf and trekking.
