Plenty of Funds for 'Pata Negra' Ventures

Over a dozen Spanish funds hold €700m to finance technology-based business ventures; experts feel such investments, which combine attractive financial returns and employment creation, will pave an exit to the current economic crisis.

Todo arrancó en 2003. Los tres socios-gestores de la firma de capital riesgo Adara, Roberto de Saint-Maló, Alberto Gómez y Nico Goulet, detectaron que tras la burbuja tecnológica había poco apoyo hacia toda iniciativa empresarial relacionada con las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIC), “incluso cierta fobia por todo lo que suponía innovación”, dice Nico Goulet. Así optaron por formar equipo para asesorar en esta especialidad.

In 2005 Adara Advisors SL launched its first fund, Adara Ventures SICAR, which closed at €50 million in August 2006. Its investment focus is globally-oriented ICT ventures that address Spain, Portugal and related markets. The fund’s launch was a very positive addition to the nascent high-tech VC landscape in the Iberian Peninsular.
